On October 27, 2004, at 11:40 p.m. ET, a tradition ended. No longer
would members of Red Sox Nation find it necessary to implore, “Wait ‘til
next year!” After 86 years, “next year” was finally
here. The seemingly never-ending gap between Boston's World Series
championships had ended.
The feat captured the imagination of, even the most-casual, fans
around the world. It was not just the victories over the Angels,
Yankees and Cardinals that was so endearing, but it was the way they
achieved their glory. It was more than simply sweeping the Angels,
falling 3-0 to their arch-rival New Yorkers before completing the
improbable, the almost impossible, by winning eight straight over
the Yankees and the Cardinals. It was more, much more.
This was a team; a “gang of idiots”; a bunch of guys having
fun overcoming adversity, and against all odds fulfilling a dream of
so many. The “Curse” was reversed. The taunts of “1918” were
quieted. The rhetorical “Why not us?” was answered in the
affirmative.
Baseball’s post-season history is filled with once-in-a-lifetime
moments: the Babe “calling his shot”, Maz’ 7th
Game, 9th inning walk-off homer, and, in 2004, it was Curt Schilling
and his damaged ankle. If there was any one defining moment that
represented the grit, determination, and attitude of the 2004 Red
Sox it was the sight of their ace on the mound, blood seeping through
his sock, pitching on an ankle, with its tendons sewn in place to
ease the pain.
Curt Schilling’s ankle became famous around the world. It
became the moment amongst so many memorable moments. The
Brockton Rox sought a way to commemorate this unforgettable feat
in an unforgettable fashion. Not everyone could get a World Series
ring as a keepsake of this event, but everyone deserved something
that they could look at to remember and cherish the moment. With
that in mind, the Rox developed “The Ankle.” “The
Ankle” is a bobble ankle doll. You read that correctly, not
a bobble head but a beautiful Curt Schilling figurine with
a bobbling ankle.
There are three important things you need to know about “The
Ankle”:
It looks great - you will be proud to own it and display it.
It’s
fun - there is an aura about the doll that will bring a smile
to your face and even a smile to the most ardent Yankees or Cardinals
fan.
Your purchase of “The Ankle” bobble ankle doll is a
great way to say thank you to Curt and will provide you with a distinctive
memento of an event that was 86 years in the making.
Buy a doll for yourself and buy some for your friends and have fun
with it, because as the Brockton Rox love to say, “Fun is Good!”
